Currently listening to a bunch of Sonic the Hedgehog music. Compelled me to write a big post about the Sonic series in the VG section, as well as make a topic for Video Game music in general.
Some of my favorite songs from Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
Sky Sanctuary Zone
Flying Battery Zone Act 2
Hydrocity Zone Act 2
Ice Cap Act 2
Azure Lake Competition Zone
S&K Minor Boss Theme

But for music, you don't really need the large 450 pixel wide window, you just need sound, so I did this for my ones on this post:

For some reason, composition in the video game and movie industry is always loads more impressive than composition in the music industry. People know that video game music is generally more "awesome," but still seem to think that the music industry produces more "legitimate" music. When you mention that your favorite composer is Nobuo Uematsu, people immediately dismiss your opinion, saying "That sounds like a video game composer. He's not a real composer." Why the hell not? He is ages more musically advanced than any music you'll hear on the radio. Why can't we get composers like this into the "legitimate" music industry?

Played a favorite of mine today. Darius II. Like all (important) games in the Darius series, the music was done by Taito's in-house band Zuntata and composed by Hisayoshi Ogura, the band founder.
Not many video games had such long elaborate tracks back in 1989. Wonderful game, wonderful music. Here's some of my favorite songs.
Olga Breeze (Stage 1, Sun)
Muse Valley (Stage 2, Mercury)
War Oh! (Boss Theme 1)
Cynthia (Stage 4, Moon)
To Nari (Stage 6, Mars)
Say Papa (Stage 7 (Final), Jupiter)
To be honest, I could probably list all of the songs in the game. As a bonus treat, here's Zuntata playing Stage 1's theme, Olga Breeze, live.
Inferior to the game version because of the severe lack of tuna sashimi, of course.
I'll probably end up talking about another Darius game in the future. G-Darius and Darius Gaiden also have excellent music.
