So, after being inspired by the book recommendations thread, I thought I should create this.
My idea is that, every month, all of us should read the same book together and discuss it here.
It really doesn't matter which book, fiction or nonfiction, classical or avant-garde, etc, as long as we pick one each month.
Things like graphic novels and short stories are also allowed, but they should only be allotted a week's reading time.
Maybe each month a different person can lead the discussion and plot out our reading schedule so people don't read ahead?
If not I'll take the liberty of doing so. If people do read ahead it usually turns into trouble because people can't help but spoil future parts of the book.
I know this seems like an English class...and it kinda is. But, gosh darn it, it's fun!

So any ideas about the first book? It's already June 6th so we're a little behind
I've always wanted to read The Count of Monte Cristo.

I would Nick, but I;ll be away from technology for 2 months this summer. I'd love to come September though, that would be great.

If no more books are suggested here by Friday I will choose which book will be read (and probably end up reading it by myself)

i suggest mein kampf. it's a well written story about the life of a young german child whose only dream in life is to grow up and be an artist. but due to his lack of talent at creating art, he is forced to settle for the lesser job of being leader of the most powerful country in europe. This gripping tale comes to an abrupt end when, due to the russians taking over berlin, he is forced to commit suicide with his lovely girlfriend

nick, i would totally be down for reading the count of monte cristo, it's one of my faves. i'd also like to throw out stephan r. lawhead's Hood. it's essentially the robin hood story in a more historically correct time and place. we could always compare it to the typical robin hood tale...

All right, it's way past Friday, and the winner issssssssssssssssssssssssssss........
THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO
due to a lack of enthusiasm and the fact that I really would like to read it
also it's somewhat actiony, somewhat romantic, somewhat revengey, and somewhat an escape story (and I love escape stories)
also it's on the best novels list and it's legit
Soooooo....get to your local libraries, bookstores, or easily beat-upable bookworms and grab a copy!

All right, the stage is set, and starting now we (or I, at least) will be reading the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas!!!
Because the book is freaking huge it will require a considerable commitment of time. I'd like to get the whole thing done in four or five weeks, so I'm making the deadline for the first volume Saturday, June 26th. That should give everyone enough time to nab a copy and start reading.
Remember, reading is COOL!
=
So don't be a dumbass, read Dumas
